‘Save Your Money,’ McMahon Camp Advises Potential Shays Backers
Posted at 12:38 p.m. on June 4, 2012
In a tight economy, every penny counts.
That must be why Chris “Good Samaritan” LaCivita, a senior consultant to Connecticut Senate hopeful Linda McMahon, is warning political action committee members and other political contributors not to bother with the fundraiser former Republican Rep. Chris Shays has scheduled for today.
Now, we could joke about the audacity of one candidate trying to pull the rug out from under a competitor in the GOP primary. But the intro on the release really says it all:
To: Political Action Committees, Interested Parties
From: Chris LaCivita, Senior Consultant, Linda McMahon for US Senate
Re: DON’T waste your money on the June 4th PAC fundraiser for Congressman Christopher Shays
LaCivita repeatedly throws Shays under the bus, highlighting his trailing polling numbers (McMahon has held a 20 percent lead since last summer), mocking his showing at the state convention (“Shays lost every Congressional District in the state, with the exception of his old congressional district, which he barely won,” LaCivita gloats) and calling into question the opposing candidate’s fiscal standing (he throws in a jab about Shays reimbursing himself for earlier loans).
LaCivita signs off his faux public service announcement with a blatant plug for McMahon’s campaign.
But at least he didn’t ask for any money. (Because that would be wrong.)
