A Regular Joe

Rep. Joe Donnelly, we have some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that one of our tipsters has pointed out that the Indiana Democrat looks like actor Jon Hamm of “Mad Men” and “Friends With Kids” fame.

“Joe will be excited to hear that because Jon Hamm is 15 years younger than him!” says Jill Donnelly, the Congressman’s wife.

Now for the bad: Donnelly is running for the soon-to-be-former Sen. Dick Lugar’s (R) seat — and is getting the brunt of one super PAC’s ire.

Since Monday, the USA Super PAC has begun broadcasting a statewide radio ad — at the price of $25,000, including production cost — tying Donnelly to President Barack Obama.

The ad begins with an outgoing voice mail message prompting the caller to leave a message. Then the voice of a fake Obama comes on leaving a very weird message of support.

“With all the bailout and stimulus money we gave the unions and government workers, you can count on them for campaign cash,” fake Obama trills. “The last thing I need is another Hoosier conservative blocking my agenda. I know we have racked up 5 trillion in debt over the last three years, but, hey, we can’t stop spending now!”

The USA Super PAC is chaired by James Bopp Jr., the lawyer who argued for “Hillary: The Movie” on behalf of Citizens United.

Yes, that Citizens United — the one that headlined Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court decision that opened up super PACs to the world.
