Good news for the calorie-deprived!
Dangerously Delicious Pies, the Baltimore-born, D.C.-colonizing, absurdly tasty pie establishment, is opening another outlet for Capitol Hill today.
The purveyor of sweet and savory pastries is taking over the old slot in Union Station’s food court previously occupied by another Baltimore institution, Vaccaro’s Italian Pastry Shop.
Vaccaro’s, maker of inimitable cannolis, pignolis and sliced-almond cookies, closed its Union Station presence during summer 2010. It still has four locations in and around the Land of Pleasant Living, including the mother ship in Little Italy, but has no plans to re-enter the D.C. market. “We’re focused on Charm City,” a Vaccaro’s staffer tells HOH.
This must have opened the pastry floodgate for Dangerously Delicious. The pie shop opened its location at 1339 H St. NE in summer 2010. About a year later, it sent off into the capital world its own food truck. Now Union Station is set to take off. And a Chinatown/Penn Quarter location is next in its sites.
“We’re really excited about it,” a Dangerously Delicious pie-slinger, who requested anonymity to protect the innocent, said of the new location.
Capitol Hill, we might not agree on the health care law or whether to hold the attorney general in contempt of Congress. But we can all agree that the Baltimore Bomb pie is a worthy dessert addition to our fair community.
