Boehner Reminds Members to Dress Appropriately: ‘You Know Who You Are’ (Video)

Perhaps it was Rep. Jared Polis’ recent affinity for bow ties or Janet L. Yellen’s black-on-black threads, but Speaker John A. Boehner is not happy with members’ recent decorum on the House floor.

The Ohio Republican reminded members Tuesday of proper “parliamentary practice” before moving on to the House dress code.

“Members should wear appropriate business attire during all sittings of the House, however brief their appearance on the floor might be, and you know who you are,” Boehner said. “The chair appreciates the attention of all the members to these matters.”

Although not the first time he has chided members about dressing appropriately, it has been more than six months since Rep. Howard Coble rocked a green madras sport coat, more than eight months since Rep. Mark Sanford’s sweat-soaked T-shirt incident and more than two years since this:

In the meantime, HOH will continue to hone its inner fashion critic.

So he wants them to look like they are doing work, even when they haven’t done any for 5 years now?

  • m141934a

Sally dear, the House has sent numerous bills to the Senate, where the Democrat controlled Senate sits on their arses and does nothing.

    • Frank

m141934a, if that is in fact, your real name, the Republican-controlled House is bending over backward to get things done, but the Senate “sits on their arses” [sic]. Really?!? Even when the House has managed to pass legislation, they do so without appropriating funding. That way, they can look good to their constituency: “Yea! We passed this critical piece of legislation!” Then the general public, whose attention span is that of an ADHD child, moves to their next issue. But they forget to see if funding is ever appropriated. But the point is, both sides of Congress are to blame.

    • johnblack45john

Name some of these so called bills

  • Rumionemore

I appreciate what Boehner is trying to do. We have the same issues in the corporate world with sloppiness and some women dressing like they’re going to turn tricks during their lunch breaks.

    • carlenefrazierwendel

      Maybe they need more salary?

      • Rumionemore

No one has to wear Armani or Chanel to be dressed appropriately. If they are turning those tricks, I’m passing that issue along to HR. They could even become strippers and hook up with some nice drug dealers. You know, family man potential.

I think what’s worse than the Republicans deliberately stalling, and dragging their feet these past several months, is that they’ve made us feel that we’re actually wrong to expect help from the government. There are others (employed) that think the same way also. But I would like to remind the politicians and some of the public, that we unemployed, have worked many years paying into the system , for others who were in need of help. This money came out of our paychecks in the form of taxes. These taxes were also used to bail out the Banking and Airline industries, several years back. I’m sure I don’t need to remind everyone, that after the bailouts, the CEO’s of these companies were actually given huge Bonuses. Only in America can a corporation destroy an economy, get bailed out, and give themselves huge bonuses. All thanks to you and me the tax payers. (the 99%). There wasn’t much debate in the congress and senate to decide to use tax payers money to bail out these greedy corporations. However, the unemployed have had to wait patiently, hoping and praying that the senate will pass the unemployment extension bill to help them. Just the other day the congress approved a billion dollar foreign aid bill for the Ukraine. Again, the bill seemed to pass quickly through the congress. There was no waiting or debate about approving it. The unemployed have been used by both political parties, as “bargaining chips”, and “political leverage”. They’ve been playing “party politics” while these families have faced evictions, home foreclosures, bankruptcy, and homelessness. These families have been hurting these past three months, while the senate takes break after break, vacation after vacation, all in the hope that the unemployed would just go away. However, I wish to remind them, that we are angry and will make sure we’re heard on election day at the polls. There is more than two million of voters who have been affected by their lack of compassion and human decency. And we will be heard loud and clear

    • occupyuranusnotmywallet

Obama and his progressive liberal policies are responsible for creating economic conditions which has created the biggest gap between the top earners and everyone else in America today. With all thy getting (anger) get understanding and make sure you remind all of your friends to vote for people who will create jobs and improve our economy.

      • johnblack45john

So you would have anybody reasonably intelligent to believe that all the problems this country is facing today all started on January 20 2009 at 121 noon?

    • carlenefrazierwendel

If you were one of the ding-bats that voted Odumbo in, get use to it. He is not going to change things to suit anyone but him and his commie friends… Just vote for the right people this Nov, and maybe we can see some changes…

      • johnblack45john

And f you are one of the low information bagger voters who voted republican you should know that it was a wasted vote. If these republicans had to choose between doing for their rich corporate sponsors or poor white trash like you who do you think they will choose? Certainly not you. They use low information voters just like you for your vote and nothing else.

  • John Brittingham

Liberals represent all that’s wrong with our society. They create problems they later campaign against.
All their Constitutional powers should be revoked.

    • johnblack45john

Conservatives need to be given the entire state of Texas so when they finally secede they will all be long gone. Just think of how much better off this country would be.

      • John Brittingham

Yeah how democrats like it just like Detroit, Chigago, Oakland, New Orleans, New York….

        • johnblack45john

Rather be there than a bigoted place like Baggerville USA where you live any day of the week. At least these cities are progressive and aren’t stuck in a 1920s time warp like you and the rest of Baggerville. This is 2014 not 1926. You people need to come into the 21st century with the rest of the world.

          • John Brittingham

Only a democrat would defend the killing of their own people day after day and accuse everyone else of racism and bigotry. It must be painful to live not knowing anything better. Your own President turned his back on his own people.
I am sorry you were never given a better chance. Your people deserved better.

          • johnblack45john

And only a dumb a** republican would falsely accuse democrats of killing anybody. My President hasn’t turned his back on anybody you clueless nitwit. I am sorry you are stupid as hell.

          • John Brittingham

Maybe you should re read it, so you will understand what I wrote.
Black are among the least educated and their education level has decreased among most races in the US.since 1980-2014
Bureau of Census data on education.

            – The black youth unemployment rate for ages 16-19 is 393% higher than the national unemployment rate, according to 393% higher than the national unemployment rate, according to data data released today by the Bureau of released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Labor Statistics (BLS).

Murder of black against blacks is 4x higher than any other race – Bureau of Statistics FBI

I would be mad as hell to if these were the results I was getting from the leaders I supported.

          • johnblack45john

Blacks are the least educated? And I am suppose to believe this because a dumb poor white bigot like you say so? And there is no census data that report this BS. And even if this crap were true (which it i not) what have you white people done to help with this problem? NOTHING! So why should I be mad as hell at President Obama when everything you mentioned here was happening long before he became president or do you think it all started on January 20 2009 at 12 noon? And 87% of the white people murdered were done by other white people but I won’t let the truth get in the way of your bigoted rant. Studies have shown that the most ill informed people in America are dumb white people like you who listen to conservative news media and believe everything they spoon feeds them including this crap you just posted. So take all of this made up hog wash and go back to bigoted Baggerville with all the rest of the bigots and racist.

            lousy statistics.

          • johnblack45john

And all the links you posted are just like you. Full of BS. And we chose leaders that do the right thing for America. YOU chose leaders who only look out for their own best interest,, And FYI not all the votes President Obama got came from Black people. So that blows your crappy theory right out of the water right there.. And again I ask you did all these things started happening on January 20 2009 at 12 noon? These things have been gone on for years even under your white boy republican presidents too so why didn’t they address any of this? So for you to blame the plight of Black people the last 50 years on democrats when your republicans did nothing either shows what a hypocrite you really are.Now take this stupid crap and stick it where the sun don’t shine. So back to Baggerville for you.

          • John Brittingham

What theory? Crime rates are higher in democrat held cities and states. Your people chose those representatives that set policy for those districts and states. Just look at the results, you don’t need any chart to tell you that the murder rate in Chicago, New York, Oakland are double.

Obama has doubled our debt that is a fact, he hasn’t lowered our spending, he bailed out the banks during the subprime mortgage collapse. he bailed out GM which didn’t have federal protection then sold it at loss of $24 billion. You think he isn’t just worried about himself?

Just point out one thing he has done for blacks?

Democrats are the only party that have a history of racism:History reveals that every piece of racist legislation that was ever passed and every racist terrorist attack that was ever inflicted on African Americans, was initiated by the members of the Democratic Party – : http://hnn.us/article/3554#sthash.kILg2nD3.dpuf

            http://hnn.us/article/3554

          • johnblack45john

Total BS plain and simple. Crime rates are high all over this country peeriod no matter where you live so this is NOT a democratic or republican issue. I know this first hand because I don’t live in a big city and the crime rate here is high just like every place else. And I live in the south and republicans have control of everything where I live. And Obama has not doubled the national debt. This crap has been debunked here too many times to count. Better than 65% of the debt of this country today can be attribute to Bush 2. And President Obama bailed out the banks to save this country from what would have been Bush 2′s depression at the end of his failed presidency as the banks were on the verge of a total collapse and Bush was loosing 800,000 jobs a month and lost 2.4 million jobs his last 4 months in office. And you are not a student of history. If you were you would know that your link is a total crock. The democratic party of that era is your republican party of today. The roles are completely REVERSED! Look it up. Now you point out anything your tea party republican congress have done for Blacks. Go ahead. This ought to be good.

          • John Brittingham

Here it is debt to the penny by the Treasury department:

startMonth=12&startDay=31&startYear=2008&endMonth=03&endDay=31&endYear=201It was 10 Trillion at the end of the Bush era when Congress was held by democrats. They raised our deficit by $900 billion FYE2008 to today.

I found the above web link on the fact check site.

            13. Most Republicans voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

            14. Most Republicans voted in favor of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

            15. Republican president Ronald Reagan signed into law the bill making Dr. King birthday a national holiday.

            16. Republican president George Bush Sr brought Federal charges against the 4 white police officers that beat up Rodney King.

            17. Republican president George W Bush gave Africa 48 billion dollars in funding.

            18. Republican president George W Bush has given more money to Africa than any other U.S. president.

            19. In 1956 Republicans endorsed Brown VS Board of Education

            20. Republican president Richard Nixon deseggregated public schools

Here is the debt left by Bush 2 at the end of his failed presidency……………..http://agonist.org/bushs_two_term_increase_in_the_national_debt/……..And this was after President Clinton left him a balanced budget and a $243 Billion surplus. And like I said before the republicans of that era are 100% opposite of the republicans of today. And Ronald Reagan’s signing this law making this holiday wasn’t really his first choice.

          • johnblack45john
          • John Brittingham

You are comparing deficit and debt, and the last budget where 900 billion were added was created by the democrats in 2007 when Bush was President.

Democrats marshaled a $2.9 trillion budget blueprint

The link you referenced was not at all useful. Reporters post their sources.

I have never heard of The Agonist before.
When Clinton handed over the reins to Bush, there was a Republican Congress, not a Democratic one. In fact, it wasn’t even a close call: For the last six years of Clinton’s term, the GOP had been in control of both the House and the Senate.

          • johnblack45john

Unlike you I know the difference between the debt and the deficit. My post shows the debt Bush 2 left., And Presidenbt Clinton did this inspite of Newt and his contract on America republicans as they were too busy shutting down the government because President Clinton had him riding coach on Air Force 1. So take your revisionist history to somebody stupid enough to believe it because {resident Clinton got this done by increasing taxes and creating 23 million jobs something no republican could ever do.

          • John Brittingham

It was Newt that forced the government shutdown and passed the first balanced budget since 1969.

Those were conservative policies that Bill Clinton was forced to sign. Bill Clinton did pass the bill to get rid of the death tax, welfare reform,

President George W. Bush, in the wake of a devastating terrorist attack, managed a return to 4 percent unemployment in 2006. He did so using conservative tax policies. Interestingly, it is Clinton-era regulatory requirements (combined with the Carter-era Community Reinvestment Act) that forced lenders to create housing loans for families with high-credit risk, creating the conditions for the 2008 meltdown

          • johnblack45john

He forced the government shutdown but had nothing to do with first balanced budget since 1969. President Clinton increased taxes and drastically cut spending. These two things resulted in the surplus along with him creating 23 million jobs. Newt had nothing to do with any of this. And Bush 2 inherited the 4% unemployment rate from President Clinbton. And at the end of his failed presidency he lost 2.4 million jobs his last 4 months in office. LOOK IT UP!

          • John Brittingham

Maybe in another country that’s how it works.
Read the Constitution: Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the United States Constitution, is known as the Taxing and Spending Clause. It is the clause that gives the federal government of the United States its power of taxation.

1983, he signed into law the legislation that made the birthday of
Martin Luther King Jr. a national holiday. Reagan did not support the

Sure. Boehner can talk about dressing for the job but he needs to be aware that that includes him not wearing leather or neoprene underwear under his business suit…

Yeah go to work wasted every day and cover it up by telling other people they’re not dressed appropriately. Good Job Boehner!

Surprised Roll Call didn’t indicate who Boehner was referring to with, “You know who you are.” Because it was evident to everyone in the chamber.
