Bye, Bye, Bye

After last week’s brouhaha, Rep. Nan Hayworth decided to cut her political consultant Jay Townsend loose.

The New York Republican announced her decision at a press conference this morning.

Hayworth came under fire from her Democratic opponent, Richard Becker, after Townsend took to a Facebook page late last month to work through his feelings.

One of the remarks Townsend posted especially seemed to raise Democratic ire.

“Let’s hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators who won’t abide the mandates they want to impose on the private sector,” Townsend wrote on the New York 19 House of Representatives Civil Discussion Center’s Facebook page.

Becker and his supporters urged Hayworth to fire Townsend for the remarks, going so far as to hold a press conference about it early this morning. Then Townsend got the boot. And Becker’s campaign seized the opportunity … to gloat.

“Nan Hayworth finally listened to us, listened to reason, and listened to the tens of thousands of people across this country who were justifiably outraged at Mr. Townsend’s remarks,” Becker said in a statement. “The timing of this announcement, coming one hour after we completed a press conference outside of Hayworth’s office calling on her to take exactly this step, was not coincidental.”
