Celebrating Moran’s and Campbell’s Pet Projects

The Washington Humane Society will figuratively pat congressional animal-loving Reps. James P. Moran, D-Va., and John Campbell, R-Calif., on the head Saturday during the 7th annual Fashion for Paws gala.

The co-chairmen of the Animal Protection Caucus will be jointly honored with the 2013 Humane Hero Award, recognition for their work on the behalf of our four-legged friends everywhere.

Tickets to the glitzy shindig, scheduled from 8 p.m. to midnight at the National Building Museum, are $150 per person and benefit the Washington Humane Society.

Attendees will be privy to the titular runway show, an open bar, gourmet appetizers by Design Cuisine and a parade of sweets ushered forth by the Georgetown Cupcake bar, a pretzel crisp tasting bar and a Dolci Gelati gelato bar.

And on-the-spot adoptions — entertainer Marie Osmond strolled off with her new furry BFF, George, at last year’s soiree — are always en vogue.

An aide to Moran said he has not attended the show in recent years but is excited to show off Bunker, the 6-year-old Chihuahua mix and office mascot that he adopted during one of the pet showcases on Capitol Hill. Moran is no stranger to the pet advocacy scene, having been named the Humane Legislator of the Year in 2011 by the Humane Society of the U.S. He also recently raised $500 for the Washington Humane Society by offering up a private lunch meeting via online charity auction.

A Campbell aide told HOH that although the congressman remains pet-less — “He doesn’t feel that it would be fair to keep a pet and never be able to spend time with it,” the staffer said of the boss’s hectic schedule — he encourages others to “enrich their own lives by adopting shelter pets.”

Tickets are available at until noon Friday.

The Washington Humane Society isn’t an “arm” of the Humane Society… there is no umbrella group… Fashion for Paws is a great fundraiser for the Washington Humane Society… national groups are not affiliated.
