For the record, an O’Rourke aide said the freshman lawmaker diversified his cookie portfolio a bit, snatching up five boxes of Thin Mints (his all-time favorite) as well as two packages of Peanut Butter Patties. (We would’ve happily gone Dutch on a box or two of Trefoils, sir.)
Still, the chastened pol promised to be even more mindful in the future.
“She was out of ‘Samoas.’ Next time,” O’Rourke assured his virtual flock.
The real story is that ANYONE would cop to craving said cookies now that the entire sash-sporting organization has been so blatantly politicized.
Why, it was just a few months ago that Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming used the iconic fundraising tool to slam embattled Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and the polarizing Affordable Care Act:
“It’s kind of like your boss coming in and standing by your desk and then asking you how many boxes of Girl Scout cookies you plan to buy from the boss’s daughter that year,” the Senate Republican Policy Committee chairman warned colleagues in a tirade against the “Sebelius Shakedown.”
