CPAC 2013 IN and OUT List
Posted at 6:38 p.m. on March 12
It’s that time of year again, when young conservatives flood the area. They will hail from all over this great land and will paint this town in their own very special shade of red for the 2013 Conservative Political Action Committee Conference!
Here’s Part I of our quick list of what is CPAC 2013 cool (and what is so 2012), with Part II coming Thursday.
OUT: Holding the conference in Washington, D.C.
IN: Holding the conference in Prince George’s County, Md.
After years of CPAC taking over the Woodley Park neighborhood in Northwest D.C., the conference is jumping ship and sailing into National Harbor in P.G. County, Md.
OUT: Open Secret Hetero Hook-Up Scene
IN: Open Secret LGBT Tolerance Event
The open secret of the CPAC conference is that it gives young people, whatever their sexuality, a variety of opportunities to hook up during the weekend.
In fact, during the 2012 conference, HOH caught up with American University dudes who claimed to be liberal Democrats, who came down Metro’s Red Line to CPAC to pass as conservatives in order to cruise the event’s official, and unofficial, singles scene.
This year, unfortunately, CPAC has jettisoned its official singles event, though there will likely still be plenty of opportunities to find a weekend partner.
The hot open secret this year, however, is CPAC’s unofficial LGBT panel.
According to WaPo’s Jennifer Rubin, the Competitive Enterprise Institute is holding a panel called “Rainbow on the Right: Growing the Coalition, Bringing Tolerance Out of the Closet” at 6 p.m. Thursday.
It is not an official event, though it is being held in the same building.
OUT: Dirty Looks
IN: Social Media
Gone are the days of knowing you’re dressed inappropriately by the shade other people would throw in your direction and the snide comments they would make about your sartorial choices.
This year, conference goers can turn to a handy Pinterest board for clear instructions on how to conform to the style of the CPAC majority.
Comic-Con this is not, dear friends, so leave your personal style at home.
CPAC is also utilizing a social media application that would give users easy access to the weekend schedule, as well as a chance to connect with that special someone you saw, but can’t pick out of a crowd because he is dressed like everyone else.
