Suspect Killed in Gunfight With Police Near Union Station

A homicide suspect was killed in a gunfight with D.C. Police a few blocks north of Union Station early Tuesday morning.

Officers reported to the suspect’s home on K Street NW shortly after 6:15 a.m.

According to Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier, who gave a live update from the scene near North Capitol and K Streets Northwest, a task force was pursuing a suspect in a homicide investigation.

Lanier said the suspect emerged from his home with a firearm and opened fire on multiple officers. The officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

Streets near the scene of the shooting are still closed.

The suspect has not been identified.  Lanier is expected to give another update on the shooting later this morning.

    One less convict to house. But the article begs the question; How can this happen in an area with some of the strictest ‘gun control laws’ on the planet? {Yeah, I’ve heard that one before… you missed the target, again. That won’t make a difference.}

      Several questions to be asked, not just the one you ask whenever there is a murder in a metropolitan area with strict laws (but conspicuously not after murders in rural areas, hm). What kind of gun did the suspect have? Where did he purchase it? At the time of his acquiring the gun, did he have prior felony convictions or anything else on his record that would have legally prohibited him from purchasing a gun? Do you think this situation would have been avoided if all gun laws had been wiped off the books?

        Do you think this situation would have been avoided if there were MORE gun laws on the books? Cause and effect really do need to be considered in this debate. Knee-jerk demands for more regulation that will do nothing to stem the violence from illegal gun use are just stupid.
