As most browsers of Rep. Darrell Issa’s rapid-fire Twitter feed know, the man fancies himself a top cop.
But last week, the California Republican ditched his stick-figured policeman guise for a “Draw Something”-like superhero motif involving a cat and a snake, which harkens to Issa’s history with Viper car alarms.
The temporary avatar switch coincided with the launch of the Internet Defense League, a Web-obsessed offshoot of the Fight for the Future folks. The rough sketch drew cheers and jeers from across the spectrum.
“@darrellissa’s twitter design and icon is actually pretty amazing,” one admirer suggested.
“Looks like a ripoff of the Anonymously Gay Duo,” a critic fired back. (That’s the “Ambiguously Gay Duo,” pal.)
Amateurish cartooning aside, Mashable reporter Alex Fitzpatrick praised Issa’s branding savvy.
“While a Twitter avatar is a minor thing, it’s something that can be appreciated by somebody who’s come to know Issa solely because of his work on Internet issues, not as the ‘[Operation] Fast and Furious’ investigation-spearheading chairman,” he told HOH.
