Not hanging at Nerd Prom this weekend?
One-up the media elite by rubbing elbows with local cheflebrities and basking in the soft glow of TV camera lights at “Class Is in Session,” a charity soiree benefiting aspiring culinary school students.
The inaugural fundraiser is being orchestrated by “Top Chef” alumnus (Season 4) cum Capitol Hill restaurateur Spike Mendelsohn, the bon vivants at Brightest Young Things and property managing Evolve DC. Tickets for the event, which is happening Saturday from 6:30 p.m.-11 p.m. at the Pierce School Lofts (1375 Maryland Ave. NE), run $100 per person, with all proceeds being funneled to Good Stuff Gardens Culinary Scholarship at KIPP DC.
Attendees will be catered to by some of the area’s most talented food handlers, including Scott Drewno, executive chef at The Source; Bryan Voltaggio, fellow “Top Chef” vet (Season 6) and founder of Volt; Bev Eggelston, sustainable dining advocate and founder of EcoFriendly Foods; Erik Bruner-Yang, chef/co-founder of Toki Underground; Victor Albisu, ex-chef at BLT Steak; and “Top Chef”testant (Season 6) turned D.C. restaurateur Mike Isabella. Custom punches are being whipped up by barkeeps from American Ice Co., Jack Rose Dining Saloon and the Passenger.
Every admission comes with two raffle tickets for prizes ranging from private cooking classes conducted by Mendelsohn to tickets to every BYT shindig for the rest of the year.
Oh yeah, and Bravo will be on hand to tape the festivities for its latest spin-off, “Life After Top Chef.”
Capacity will be 300 guests, with roughly 100 tickets being offered to the public.
So don’t dawdle — unless you’d rather fight for picked-over hors d’oeuvres at the “Hinckley Hilton.”
