Roughly one month after the 53rd Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game, players and fans have another reason to celebrate their performances at Nationals Park.
The winners of the Roll Call Fantasy Baseball competition were announced Wednesday, granting some coveted prizes to the top three fantasy teams.
As part of the competition, contestants could choose nine players from either team and earn points based on each player’s performances. A player earned 10 points for a single, 20 for a double, 30 for a triple, etc.
Each of the top three teams consisted almost entirely of Democrats, who were victorious in the June game, beating their Republican opponents 15-6. Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., who was chosen for the third place winner’s roster, was the lone Republican on the winning teams.
Although the final score was lopsided in favor of the Democrats, the box score revealed a fairly even offensive performance from both teams. Democrats had 11 hits in the game and Republicans had nine, which means that both teams had players on the top 10 most valuable fantasy team members list.
The players who earned the most fantasy points included:
1. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif.
2. Kevin Brady, R-Texas
3. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla.
4. Adam Smith, D-Wash.
5. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio
6. Raul Ruiz, D-Calif.
7. Cedric L. Richmond, D-La.
8. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.
9. Christopher S. Murphy, D-Conn.
10. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind.
11. Vance McAllister, R-La.
12. John Carney, D-Del.
Democratic star Richmond was the most-picked player for the fantasy teams. But Richmond did not have many chances to rack up offensive points for the fantasy teams as he was intentionally walked during most of his appearances at the plate.
Prizes courtesy of the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America and the Washington Nationals were awarded to three participants who put together the highest-scoring teams.
Karthik Ravinshankar’s fantasy team came in first place and Ravinshankar won a $200 Nike Gift Card and two tickets to a Nationals baseball game. Second place went to Anne Hazlett, who received a $50 Zappos gift card and a bat used in the game. And the third place prize of a pair of Dearfoams slippers went to Nicole Keesling.
