GOP Policy Wiz Gives ‘Millionaire’ a Go
Posted at 6:25 p.m. on Jan. 23, 2013
Career Hill staffer Chris Jacobs is putting his fact-filled brain to the test on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” Friends — including a recently retired senator — and family will bear witness to his pop culture prowess Thursday during a special viewing party on Capitol Hill.
Jacobs, a former health care policy analyst for the Joint Economic Committee and the Republican Study Committee, will host the “Millionaire” viewing party from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 167 of the Russell Senate Office Building, the space once occupied by his JEC boss, former Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C. The show is scheduled to air at 12:30 p.m. on ABC-7.
A lifelong trivia junkie, Jacobs told HOH that he popped up on the “Jeopardy!” Teen Tournament in 1995 while still in high school. Locally, he’s a fan of Molly Malone’s weekly “Trivia Kings” showdown —“It’s a fun night out with my friends and co-workers,” he said — and Politico’s roving monthly game night.
In the wake of DeMint’s recent jump to The Heritage Foundation, Jacobs is still mulling his next move. “I expect to remain active on health policy, but I can’t say who will or won’t hire me until they do,” he said of his somewhat uncertain job prospects.
Given that he’s nursing a sore left ankle (he had corrective surgery over the holidays), we suspect that having host Meredith Vieira hand over a jumbo novelty check with lots of zeros splayed across it at the conclusion of the broadcast would be the most comforting outcome of all for Jacobs. And because it’s “Crystal Ball” week — a gimmick incorporating a forward-looking peek into the monetary value of any given question to each contestant’s bank of “lifelines” — on the show, he’ll have at least one extra shot at making that a reality.
