Hockey Caucus

The bipartisan Congressional Hockey Caucus welcomes the National Hockey League and Luke Russert to Capitol Hill next Wednesday.

Hockey Caucus co-chairmen — Democratic Reps. Brian Higgins (N.Y.) and Mike Quigley (Ill.) and Republican Reps. Patrick Meehan (Pa.) and Lee Terry (Neb.) — will join a panel of NHL royalty to talk about the positive effect that hockey has on youth in the community.

Gary Bettman, the NHL commissioner, joins Ted Leonsis, the chairman and owner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment and the Washington Capitals; Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey and the USA Hockey Foundation; Ed Snider, the chairman and founder of the Comcast Spectacor, which owns the Philadelphia Flyers; and Johnny C. Taylor Jr., president and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to talk about the intersection of essential life skills and competitive sports.

For some reason, Russert, the Congressional correspondent for NBC News, will be there to referee, while Meehan will play host to the group.

We’re told that if you pop by the Rayburn House Office Building on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m., there will also be a “special announcement.”
