Mini-Golf Returning to National Building Museum, With Barbecue

The National Building Museum is bringing back one of its most popular exhibits, air-conditioned mini-golf courses, from Memorial Day, May 27, to Labor Day, Sept. 2. And it’s bringing along some smoked meat and beer.

This year, the exhibit has been expanded to two nine-hole courses and will again be designed by leading architects. This year’s theme will be “Building the Future” and draws inspiration from things such as green urban planning, the reality of our office space, pinball and others.

The mini-golf exhibit will be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum will also offer six “Mini Golf Late Night” sessions throughout the summer — Thursday, June 6; Thursday, June 27; Thursday, July 11; Wednesday, July 24; Thursday, Aug. 8, and Thursday, Aug. 22. Late-night hours are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tickets to golf are $5 per person, per round. If you go see another exhibit, however, they’ll knock down the price to $3.

Also, party planners, take note! You can rent out the mini-golf courses for your fancy events and galas.

Not a huge mini-golf fan? Well, you should probably still stop by the museum for Hill Country’s barbecue pop-up.

From Wednesdays through Sundays this summer, Hill Country Barbecue Market will have a pop-up cookout on the museum’s West Lawn. The cookout will feature Texas-style barbecue, ice cold Shiner Bock beer and signature cocktails. Friday and Saturday nights there will be live-music, and where there is live music, there will be dancing, and where there is dancing, mini-golf, barbeque and cold beer joy must follow.

If D.C.’s summer heat is too much for you, you can grab your barbecue and eat it in the museum’s Great Hall. The cookout hours are Wednesdays through Friday, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturdays, noon though 11 p.m. and Sundays, noon through 9 p.m. This Friday is the grand opening of the Hill Country Backyard Barbecue site.

If after reading this you’re not excited for summer yet, here’s a track to put you over the edge:
