Paul Strauss Stumps for DC in LA

Not having an official vote undoubtedly makes it tougher for D.C. shadow Sen. Paul Strauss to stand out as much as he’d like around Capitol Hill.

He appears to have no such trouble on the West Coast, a powerbase the local pol has been cultivating for over a decade in the hopes of getting Hollywood to back D.C. statehood.

Strauss is planning another charm offensive Thursday night — that’s when he’ll lobby La-La Land at The Creative Coalition’s “Voices of Impact Dinner.”

The star-studded shindig — anticipated attendees include Creative Coalition president Tim Daly, Omar Epps, Jeremy Piven, Richard Schiff and Kate Walsh — is scheduled to get under way around 7 p.m. PST at Russian-themed Mari Vanna (8475 Melrose Place).

The cross-country campaigning began back in 2000. Strauss said he networked while working the Democratic National Convention in 2000, and made sure to keep in contact over the years. Strauss headed back in 2010 — and again in 2012 — to huddle with journalist-cum-Academy-Award-winning-producer Mark Boal.

The goal, Strauss insists, is not to collect celebrity friends, but to dial up the strength of his microphone by adding voices to the choir.

“I have a long-standing relationship with many DC statehood celeb advocates,” he explained of his ongoing outreach efforts.

And it never hurts to have a pressing engagement in California:
