Sen. John Thune Injured, May Have to Sit Out Capital Challenge

Hill runners, how many of you were hoping to best Sen. John Thune during this year’s ACLI Capital Challenge? Well, get used to disappointment, folks.

First of all, according to Runner’s World, the South Dakota Republican runs a 6-minute, 15-second mile. Not so shabby. Second, Thune is currently nursing an injury, so his participation in the race is up in the air.

“Sen. Thune has a bad case of plantar fasciitis due to overuse — likely from running,” Thune spokeswoman AshLee Strong said. “He was in a boot for a few weeks.”

The senator must be on the mend, since he was spotted Thursday wearing a sneaker on the damaged limb and a dress shoe on the one that’s fine.

However, will the fastest man in Congress be back to his fighting shape by race day?

“He is a co-chair of the Capital Challenge 3-miler this year,” Strong told HOH. “But unfortunately, his participation in the race is unclear at this point.”

The Capital Challenge is scheduled for May 15. Gather your people and run for your lives.
