Shark Week Promises Sonic Buffet, Discount Sushi

Washington, D.C., rockers Shark Week are road-tripping to Austin, Texas, for the fabled South by Southwest festival, but not before blowing minds — and the doors off the Rock N Roll Hotel — on Friday with a sendoff and single release party.

The globe-trotting quartet — including singer/acrobat Ryan Hunter, guitarist Alberto Pacheco, bassist Danielle Vu and CQ Roll Call hack-cum skins-pounding percussionist Daniel Newhauser — plans to premiere a new track recorded during a recent trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico, during the all-ages show.

They’ll be joined by Dance for the Dying, The Flying Eyes and Joy Buttons.

Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person via TicketAlternative.com, with all pre-sale purchasers entitled to 10 percent off orders at nearby restaurant Sticky Rice on the day of the show.

Confidence is high that Shark Week will rock selections from its debut album, “EP,” a 2012 release featuring original tunes, “Get High,” “If You Want Me to Stay (for a While)” and “There Comes a Time.”

If you miss the Friday show — and aren’t groupie enough to follow them down to Tejas — your next chance to revel in the Shark Week experience will be April 6-7, when the band descends on The Hamilton for “DC Emerging Artists Super Sampler, Vol 1.” Or catch them May 11, when they take a bite out of the Sweetlife Festival.

And to the band: No pressure. After all, the official South by Southwest program compares you to some of punk and alternative rock’s iconic bands: “A series of high-energy shows up and down the East Coast, have garnered the band comparisons to Johnny Thunders, the New York Dolls, the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Strokes.”
