Take Five

It’s Tuesday again, which means it’s time for Take Five, when HOH gets to hang out with a member of Congress and get to know him or her better through five fun questions. This week, we sit down with Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, who at times loses himself in fly fishing.

Q: What do you miss most from Texas while you’re here?
A: Mexican food and barbecue. I love barbecue ribs. I have hardly met anything barbecue or Mexican food that I didn’t like, but I like barbecue ribs pretty good. They don’t quite do it the same out here.

Q: What’s your favorite pastime?
A: My favorite pastime is fly fishing. If I get a chance to go fly fishing, that’s a great opportunity. The thing about [it] is that when you’re fly fishing, you really can’t think about anything else — and those daggone trout live in really pretty places. So it’s kind of a two-for-one.

Q: What is your favorite peanut dish, since your district is home to so many peanut farmers?
A: Peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I can go wheat or white. When I’m feeling in a healthy mood I’ll go wheat. I love rye bread, but it doesn’t go too good with peanut butter and banana.

Q:Do you have a favorite Founding Father?
A: Yes. One that I’m actually kin to: George Washington. We’re cousins, somehow. Someone sent us a genealogy, and it turns out we’re cousins.

Q: What was your first job?
A: Working in agriculture research. I was 15. We planted and harvested almost everything by hand because it was in test plots.
