This Competition’s in the Bag

Rep. Reid Ribble (R-Wis.) will have his work cut out for him this afternoon when he faces off against the fleet-
fingered Stephanie Teteak in the first National Grocers Association Best Bagger Congressional Competition.

Teteak, who honed the requisite rapid-fire stacking and sorting skills during her 13-year tenure at Larry’s Piggly Wiggly (in Ribble’s district), is doing a victory lap after clinching the NGA 2012 Best Bagger National Champion crown earlier this spring. The Chicago native first entered the national bagging competition, now in its 26th year, in 2002 and has racked up several local and state titles in the intervening decade.

Ribble, a former roofing company executive, better start thinking about how best to build aesthetically pleasing sacks from the bottom up if he hopes not to embarrass himself before visiting NGA officials, his peers — Reps. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.), John Shimkus (R-Ill.), David Scott (D-Ga.), Corrine Brown (D-Fla.), Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.), Andy Harris (R-Md.), Tom Petri
(R-Wis.) and Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) are all slated to attend — or any member of the general public interested in shopping-related throwdowns.

Spectators are welcome to assemble in Room 2253 of the Rayburn House Office Building at 4 p.m.
