What the Duck?
Posted at 6:47 p.m. on Nov. 13, 2012
Congress has been back for just a few hours and already the hijinks have resumed. Wednesday’s projected nuttiness: Oxfam America is posting a giant inflatable duck outside of the Capitol and slipping lawmakers sweet little reminders to not be “lame” the rest of this session.
The international aid organization wants members to keep foreign assistance in mind as they renew efforts to circumvent the looming sequestration before the end of the year.
Lest anyone believe the group is all carrot and no stick, in addition to delivering the custom ordered sweets to each congressional office, Oxfam aides will needle bipartisan leaders from both chambers by having the faux pols take cover behind the balloon mallard. Keep an eye out for impersonators dressed as Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
The theater of the absurd (it’s great to be back, isn’t it?) commences at 10:30 a.m. on the Capitol grounds.
